Smart, real-time information – it’s what drives day-to-day trade through UK ports and airports, and it’s what Community Network Services (CNS) provides.
Shipping lines, airlines, freight forwarders, shippers, sheds, terminal operators, Customs and other inspection agencies, hauliers, railway operators… They all depend on a swift flow of import and export information. Without it, trade would simply grind to a halt.
CNS’ systems are at the heart of the process, facilitating the electronic handling of all import and export information, ensuring that the right people have the right facts at their fingertips. The alternative? We’d all be buried in a paper chase of nightmarish proportions. At CNS, we are proud of the role we play in keeping that trade moving, through the services we provide to businesses across the maritime and air logistics sectors.

Freightliner is honoured to once again sponsor the Container Line of the Year award at this year’s Global Freight Awards.
Freightliner is a modern and dynamic logistics provider and a market leader in terms of reliability and service. With a widespread national network, Freightliner Ltd can move maritime containers from the deep sea ports of Felixstowe, Southampton, Tilbury and London Gateway to all major conurbations in the UK.
Freightliner owns and operates 8 of the 12 inland terminals served, collectively handling over 770,000 containers per year and is the only UK rail freight operator with its own fleet of road vehicles. This offers customers the complete logistics package and ensures satisfaction at every step of the journey from port to end delivery.
Freightliner’s skilled and knowledgeable workforce, continued investment in its terminal network, state of the art rolling stock, handling equipment and container handling IT systems ensure that Freightliner Ltd handles each container efficiently and quickly to keep up with and exceed customer demand. Investments include updated cranes at their Southampton terminal to ensure growing container market demands can be met.
Increasing network utilisation and lowering carbon emission, PowerHaul locomotives have greater fuel efficiency, higher haulage and acceleration capabilities than any current diesel locomotive in the UK.
The use of Freightliner’s ‘Shortliner’ wagons maximises port and inland capacity, reduces CO2 emissions and increases network utilisation by increasing the amount of boxes that can be hauled. By combining ‘Shortliner’ wagons with the more traditional 60ft platform, Freightliner is able to haul longer and heavier trains which reflects the market shift towards an increased 40ft requirement but with the ability to satisfy the remaining demand for 20ft movements.
